Skyset Cinema crew shooting with the Inspire in a desert landscape

Tabernas · Cabo de Gata · Sierra Espuña

Drone filming in Tabernas
and Almería.

Aerial filming in Europe's only desert, one hour from our base in Murcia. Six decades of filmmaking history and the cleanest light in the Mediterranean. For Spanish and international productions.

Why people shoot here

Europe's only
desert.

Tabernas has 280 km² of continuous desert landscape. When A Fistful of Dollars was shot here in 1964, Sergio Leone discovered what any DP confirms within five minutes on set: the light here is different. 300 days of sunshine a year, clean skies with no industrial dust and a colour palette that exists nowhere else in Europe.

People still shoot here today: westerns, car commercials, sci-fi and music videos. Many of those productions come from outside Spain with big budgets and big crews. We are one hour's drive away, at our base in Murcia.

300
days of sunshine a year

Clear skies almost all year round. Weather stops being a production risk.

1h
from our base

Murcia to Tabernas is 100 km. We can cover a day shoot and drive back, no hotel budget needed.

60+
years of filmmaking history

Local authorities know film shoots. AESA permits are quick and the local fixers are veterans.

Areas we cover

Almería from north
to south.

Tabernas Desert

The iconic landscape: badlands, dry riverbeds, rock formations and cinematic light. The three theme parks (Oasys, Fort Bravo, Western Leone) are real sets with fast permits.

Western Car commercials Sci-fi

Cabo de Gata–Níjar

Coastal natural park with volcanic cliffs, unspoilt beaches and white villages. Specific permits as it is a nature reserve, but filming is feasible with planning.

Editorial Documentary Brand

Sierra Alhamilla and Filabres

Inland mountain ranges with empty roads, ideal for automotive shoots and chases. Dramatic bends, no traffic, continuous arid landscape.

Automotive Action sports

Coast from Mojácar to Cabo de Gata

A Mediterranean coast far less crowded than the Costa del Sol. Hotels, beaches and architecture without Málaga's tourist pressure. Good light all year.

Real logistics

How a shoot
works here.

For productions from outside Spain, this is the practical logistics of shooting with a drone in Tabernas or Almería.

01

Recce first

If the production can, we recommend a recce day. If not, we do a virtual scout with photos and technical references: weather, sun angles by the hour and planned flight paths.

02

AESA permits + local fixers

We handle AESA permits for Tabernas (10–14 days). For Cabo de Gata or Sierra Nevada we coordinate with the natural park managers. If the production is international, we also handle the ATA Carnet for your gear.

03

Arrival and base of operations

Almería airport is 30 minutes from the set. Murcia–San Javier or Alicante for international flights. Hotels in Tabernas village or Almería city, depending on budget.

04

On set: Inspire 3 + FPV

Gear ready on set: full-frame Inspire 3, FPV unit with RED Komodo 6K and every battery charged. 8K ProRes RAW straight into your post pipeline.

FAQ

What a production
company asks.

Does Tabernas require special drone permits? add

Tabernas village and the theme parks are not restricted zones, so the standard AESA permit is enough. If you shoot inside protected areas (Karst en Yesos, riverbeds with endemic flora), additional authorisation from the Junta de Andalucía is required. We handle it.

What is the best time of year to shoot? add

October to May. Summer (June–September) brings extreme heat (45°C+) that affects batteries, talent and crew. Inspire 3 batteries heat up fast above 35°C. Golden hour at dawn and dusk is spectacular but short: about 25 usable minutes.

Do you speak English? We produce from the UK/US. add

Yes. We both speak English (B2 level) and are comfortable on a bilingual set. For US productions we also coordinate customs paperwork (ATA Carnet) if you bring your own gear.

Do you work alongside other units on set (ground camera, gimbal car)? add

Yes. We are the aerial unit. We integrate with your DP and ground unit. On shoots with a gimbal car we coordinate routes, heights and comms so both systems work in sync without getting in each other's way.

How much does a drone day in Tabernas cost?add

An aerial-unit day with no hotel or long travel: Tabernas is one hour from our base. AESA permits in the area are standard except in protected spaces.

Can you fly a drone in the Tabernas western towns (Oasys, Fort Bravo)?add

Yes. They are private sets: you need the owner's permission and the standard AESA permit; we coordinate schedules with the park and the production.
